25 Days of Christ Celebration - Day 7
"... and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor…” Isaiah 9:6
My mind will spin a problem round and round like a tornado flinging debris. I’ll land on an answer, then a “what if…” will fly through and set the whole thing in motion again.
In Psalm 46:10 we’re commanded to “Be still and know that I am God,” and it is in the stillness, when I quiet my mind and focus my whole being on reaching out to the Lord, that the answers come. In those moments, I am flooded with peace and my stress releases. I feel the warmth of His love and presence, and the questions and doubts are gone.
When I’m in such turmoil that I’m unable to find the stillness, I seek the council of trusted, mature Christians, believers who I know will give me a Godly perspective on my dilemma. Their words and prayers bring clarity and reassurance, and I know that the Lord has spoken through them to remind me of His provision and love.
Most of the time, though, His counsel comes from Scripture. My devotion passage will perfectly speak to a situation or circumstance I’ve prayed over, or I’ll open my Bible and my eye will fall on the exact message I need in that moment.
Some how, some way, the answer always comes, and I'm constantly reminded of Jesus' provision in my life. Two precious people, both strong women of faith, have reminded me recently that if I am truly seeking His will, He won't allow me to make a bad decision.
Friends, Jesus loves us, and He is with us as an “ever present help” (Psalm 46:1). He desires us to seek His counsel in all we do, and He will send us an answer. Let us accept His invitation to “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28, 29
