25 Days of Christmas Celebration - Day 8
Jesus is Mighty God. Think about that for just a moment. Consider how amazing it is that God Himself took on human form and came to Earth to save us. Who are we that God should even notice us? (Psalm 8:4) But we are the work of His own hands. His beloved creations made "a little lower than the heavenly beings." (Psalm 8:5)
Jesus, the Word, our Savior, is Mighty God. In Luke 17, Jesus prays for His followers, and in vv. 11 and 21 He proclaims that He and the Father are one. What a humbling, utterly incredible realization! God, the Creator, the Author of everything loves us to the point of lowering Himself to a helpless babe, subject to the will of a human father, to live as a lowly carpenter then teacher, and ultimately die a criminal's death in order to perfectly and finally atone for all our sin. How preciously loved does that make you feel?
My simple human words can never effectively communicate the wonderful, awe-inspiring, unfathomable greatness of our God or the magnitude of His love. My limited human brain cannot even conceive of an image awesome enough to adequately describe a being that powerful and majestic, but I am so excited at the prospect of going to Heaven and seeing Him with my own eyes. Oh, what a magnificent privilege!
As the song says, "I can only imagine. Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for You, Jesus, or to my knees will I fall? Will I sing 'Hallelujah?' Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine!" ("I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me)
During this Advent season, at the end of a year of great turbulence and difficulty, meditate on the fact that Mighty God Himself is with us. Read His prayer for us in Luke 17 and feel the love pouring from each petition on our behalf, remembering His promise in Matthew 28:20, "And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
