25 Names of Christ Celebration - Day 12
We've all heard the title "lord" used in books and movies, as in "Lord and Lady So & So." We also often hear someone of lesser title refer to another of more elevated rank as, "my lord." It's a term of respect, an acknowledgement of status and power.
Calling Jesus "Lord,"is an acknowledgment of His status and power as the most elevated Being in Heaven or Earth. Philippians 2:9-11 explains it this way, "Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
When we call Jesus our Lord, we are proclaiming ourselves to be His followers and announcing our belief in Him as the Son of God. Romans 10:9-10 says, "because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
