Steadfast and Strong
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
If you consider the entire Biblical record from Genesis to Revelation, you have the story of a God of infinite mercy and forgiveness. Time and time, again, His people, humans, the very work of His own hands, have failed to do what He commanded or to live up to His holy standards, and time and time again, He has forgiven and saved them.
Some may consider this weakness, or even insanity, but God is neither. He is good. He is loving, and He is strong. He is our Heavenly Father.
Don’t human parents act in the same way? Rather than cast our children aside when they break our rules or test their limits, we correct them and lovingly guide them to better behavior.
As 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Despite our failures and mistakes, God never stops loving us. That means, no matter how far we’ve strayed from following Him, it’s never too late to turn back, to ask for His forgiveness and mercy, and be accepted back into His loving embrace.
There’s no greater assurance for peace and joy in my life, than knowing that our Heavenly Father never gives up on me. I still make mistakes, and He still lovingly reminds me through His Spirit and word of who I am in Him and how I should behave as His daughter, but as Jesus tell us in John 10:27-30, no one will ever snatch me from His hand.
Father God, we thank You for Your infinite love and mercy towards us. We praise You for all that You are – strong, merciful, loving, and powerful. You are our awesome Father, and we ask for Your continued patience and forgiveness towards us as we learn to walk in Your paths of righteousness. Please guide us through Your Spirit and teach us the way in which we should go. In Jesus Christ’s holy name - Amen
